The UAE Infrastructure and Housing Council held its first meeting of 2025. His Excellency Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, presided over the meeting that discussed the progress made in priority areas and highlighted the challenges and opportunities for developing and improving the efficiency of the infrastructure and housing sectors.
Held at the Dubai headquarters of the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI), the meeting drew the attendance of senior representatives of concerned local government departments from across the UAE.
The council reviewed the key future trends and plans for the development of infrastructure, housing, and transportation, aiming to achieve sustainability and enhance the quality of life across the country. It also discussed initiatives to improve the efficiency and sustainability of infrastructure, plans to update the road network, efforts to strengthen the position of public transport, and practical solutions to improve traffic flow, which is a national priority for the next phase. The council emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation between federal and local entities to ensure that projects are executed according to the highest global standards and in line with the needs of individuals and society.
Members of the council also examined the Unified Guide for Urban Development, which encourages the use of rail for moving people and goods, and emphasized the need to enhance integration between housing services to make them user-friendly, efficient, and innovative.
During the meeting, His Excellency Al Mazrouei, said: “The United Arab Emirates places a high priority on infrastructure and housing projects. Sustainability and innovation are main pillars in our infrastructure and housing projects. The Ministry is committed to integrating both pillars in the housing and infrastructure projects it executes to make them resilient and meet the needs of citizens.”
His Excellency pointed out the importance of relying on green transportation systems, which contribute to environmental sustainability, improving traffic flow, and providing more efficient and sustainable mobility solutions for the residents and visitors of the country.
He emphasized that the well-being of citizens and residents is a top priority in the development of infrastructure and housing projects, and that achieving sustainable quality of life requires focusing on meeting the needs of society and fulfilling the aspirations of future generations.
The council concluded the meeting with a set of recommendations that seek to enhance project sustainability, accelerate project completion, drive partnerships with the private sector, and leverage advanced technologies, such as AI, in project development and management.
